PIER PAOLO CALZOLARI

BIOGRAPHY

Pier Paolo Calzolari (1943) is an Italian sculptor born in Bologna. In his early works, he was largely associated with the Arte Povera movement. After moving to Venice, he was influenced by the unique lighting of the city and reflections of the buildings on the water. These studies of light translated in his works by using frost to create the ultimate white. In keeping with this study on natural elements, Calzolari uses organic materials in his works – fire, salt, lead tobacco and burnt wood. His current works heavily include aspects of his own daily life.
