ADOLF LUTHER

BIOGRAPHY

Adolf Luther (1912‒1990) was a German artist known for his light installations and optical sculptures, experimenting with reflective glass, concave mirrors, lenses, lasers and often smoke to explore the movement and transformation of properties of light as an independent medium. He developed various techniques of manipulating light and pushing the boundaries of spatial perspectives and our experiences of visual reality, closely associated with Kinetic Art and especially the conceptual thinking of Group Zero in the 1950s and 1960s, which included dematerialisation, assemblage, production of new environments and the appearance of light through use of non-traditional and everyday materials.
