HERMAN DE VRIES

BIOGRAPHY

Herman de Vries (1931) is a Dutch artist. His early work involved his participation in the “Zero” movement in the 60’s. His work after this period, include working with natural materials. Instead of working in mechanical mediums, he rather includes organic elements. His studio in the tiny town of Eschenau, Holland allows him to transgress into the natural world and gather samples for his sculptures. His motto, “chance and change” is the theoretical backbone to his works. This motto and works are still inspired by his closeness to the natural world and his decision to minimise his distance from it.
