Francois Morellet (1926-2016) was a French light artist, sculptor and painter famous for his minimal and conceptual pieces. Morellet contributed immensely to the development of geometrical abstract art with his sculptures formed from simple, geometrical shapes. After experimenting with neon tube lighting in combination with his sculptures, he then shifted his study to the artist’s interaction with their exhibition space. This then translated to many pieces that grappled with installation and environmental art, with many commissioned public pieces created from his studies in these concepts.
